It’s easy to completely explore a city if you have a lot of time, but let’s see how to spend 2 days in Varna and get most of it. This guide will help you to explore Varna in 48 hours and don’t feel like you have missed something after you come back home.
The bad news is that you have to wake up early (around 8:oo AM). However, the good news is that Varna has delicious local breakfast foods. In Bulgaria, baked pastry delicacies are a norm for the morning and they are so tasty (and full of calories haha). The most popular Bulgarian street breakfast is “Banitsa” with Bulgarian fetta cheese and eggs, but you have to try “Kashkavalka” or “Mekitsa” as well. There are countless bakeries but the author’s favourite is “Divoto Brashno”.
Time for the morning coffee – you can bet on Costa coffee in the city centre or try local brands like 43.12 Cafe, they make crafted coffee and it’s really good. The place is in the Greek neighbourhood – the old city of Varna.
While in the city center
You should visit the Archeological museum in Varna – there is the oldest crafted gold in the world, found at Varna Necropolis some years ago. This is a world-class place to visit.
Let’s continue with the Bulgarian traditional cuisine and try something delicious at Staria Chinar for example or some of the many restaurants in Varna. Why don’t you try some Deer ham with pepper sauce or Beef tongue in butter? Maybe it sounds like we are kidding but this is delicious ???? . (Disclaimer: The author is vegetarian and have never tried these things but they are popular among locals).
Afternoon beach time
After all, Varna is The sea capital of Bulgaria and there are many amazing beaches. Let’s visit some of them, the Central Beach for example. Sip a cocktail, enjoy pleasant music and dive into the Black Sea. The sand is fine, the seawater is crystal clear and very warm during summer months.
Bulgarians love Mediterranean food and you can find many Mediterranean restaurants here in Varna. In this line of thought, we already have mentioned Varna Port ‘Morska Gara” and probably now it time to visit it. Whichever restaurant you choose, you won’t regret. Good to have a reservation or you will have to wait on the queue just to enter. You will enjoy delicious food and an amazing view of the Varna Port. Another option is to visit some of the BM restaurants, a popular restaurant chain in Varna.
We are not here to sleep, right? It is time to visit Cubo – one of the most popular beach bars among locals. Grab a beer or something like that and enjoy the evening. Meet some locals or just dance. Option 2 is maybe Club Horizont – another great place to end the day. If you want to mix with the locals, please consider The Brick Bar.
Start the day with sport in Varna Sea Garden or near the beach. In the morning it’s full of runners or people just enjoying the beautiful views in the Sea garden. Grab a fresh juice from one of the many Fresh Bars here in Varna.
If into the sightseeing, visit The Stone Forest – unique natural wonder or Varna Zoo. If you bring the kids, visit the Kids Corner in the Sea garden. Option 3 – shopping time in one of the malls. Try Grand Mall or Delta Planet Mall in Varna. If hungry try local street food like Le Chef.
Are you interested in the Socialist Era? Would you like to see some retro cars and objects from the everyday life of the near past? Then you should visit The Retro Museum in Grand Mall. There are many things to see and dive into the past.
Maybe you are already tired, but Varna has more to offer! Maybe you should visit one of the largest casinos in Bulgaria – Casino International in Golden Sands, where you can try your luck and have fun. Who knows, maybe that’s your lucky night and you can make it!
Option 2 for non-gambler souls – Visit the main street, where you can have dinner and pleasant walk after it.
